Floral is the new black! For this fall, e pretty hefty number of designers, kicked minimalism to the curb and added bold floral prints to their collections. What’s more, florals are not necessarily girly and bright. And since they took root this season in so many sizes and patterns, mixed with other botanical motifs, there is no excuse not to wear florals.
See the best part is that florals are such an easy and fun print to style! Yes, they are! Floral prints come in all sorts of colors and variations, not to mention how interesting they get when you dare to mix them up with another print in your outfit (like stripes!). And if you really enjoy getting out of your comfort zone with styling, you can also match them with a very bold, contrasting color. But even if you prefer to stay in your print’s color palette, the options are endless!
For example, I paired my floral dress here by draping a denim jacket over my shoulders, as the print has blue tones in it. I finished my look with my beloved white Gucci boots and a bag in dark blue color, which also match the floral print of my dress. But I can also wear it with a white outerwear for more contrast and black pumps, a black leather jacket and green glittery ankle boots, a black & white striped bag and a black coat, rust colored pumps, you name it! For a winter-ready take like mine here, look for dark and moody florals, that give the otherwise sweet and girly print a dash of drama with a hint of Victorian goth.
Integrate dark florals into your wardrobe, starting with my current favorites below:
Still drooling over Dolce & Gabbana’s realistic floral fields and Miu Miu itty-bitty flowers? Me too! Now you can finally get your hands on those purple flowers, but with a price you can actually afford!
Overall florals are a safe pattern to wear in a myriad of possibilities. Keep jewelry delicate to balance large-scale florals. With the right styling and some imagination, you can wear even the same piece in so many ways, without turning your favorite floral print into a fall uniform.

My best friend Lauren loves to wear florals – bright, dark, all of it – and I think she looks so cute in it just like you do! But I have no idea how to wear or even how to pair shoes with it. Do they have to be solid colors? Do they need to be flats? Ugh I get so overwhelmed that I kind of just quit and go back to wearing solid colors or maybe (MAYBE) polka dots, LOL! But I love that you put the jacket the shoes and the circular shades with this outfit. You look so darn put together. I’m gonna attempt it at the store this weekend (pray for me) and I will add delicate jewelry to the mix too!! =]

To answer your question, I think shoes don’t have to be in solid colors, but it is a much easier and safer styling for floral beginners. 😉 Nor they have to be flats. I usually leave the height of my shoes up to my mood, taking into consideration the rest of the outfit.
