New Year’s Eve In Vienna – Day One

New Year's Eve in Vienna - Stella Asteria

Happy New Year everyone! I hope you are having a great start to 2017! I wish the new year brings to you and your families lots of love, peak of health, happiness, abundance and prosperity.

If you follow me on instagram and snapchat already know I spent the New Year’s Eve in Vienna, Austria. It was a wonderful trip and vacation, and Vienna is a magnificent city. Today I will share with you my first look from our first day in Vienna.

I probably don’t have to tell you how cold it was. The temperatures where below zero and we even saw some snow during our last days there. That’s where this beautiful coat came to the rescue! But just so you know, no matter what you are wearing there, if you are not well equipped with warm gloves, hat and scarf, you will be definitely cold.

We started our first day in Vienna by taking a walk at the town center where we enjoyed a horse-drawn carriage tour at historic center of Vienna and the numerous palaces. This city is so full of history and remarkable sights that five days were really not enough! I definitely recommend you to take a tour with a horse-drawn carriage in Vienna while enjoying a hot coffee.

This was actually our second day in Vienna, but the first one that we actually went out. We had to spend the first day at a hospital due to a strong allergic reaction I had to something I still don’t know, which made my face and lips so swollen that I looked something between Joker and a lady gone wild in lip surgeries. At least we had a good laugh! But all went good and I really need to mention the impeccable health care system in Vienna. Especially when comparing to the one in Greece. Imagine that my insurance is covering me for worldwide private clinics and I didn’t feel at all that I have to leave this super clean hospital, with its very good, kind and dedicated doctors and staff.

Our stay was at the Sofitel Vienna Stephansdom, where we also spent the New Year’s Eve at the hotel’s restaurant Das Loft, enjoying breathtaking views to the best part of Vienna and the fireworks that started early in the afternoon all over the city. New Year’s Eve in Vienna is magical! There will also be a full review on the hotel next week here on the blog.

I will give my best shot to be consistent on posting on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, as in two weeks we are relocating and there are SO many things to do. It’s crazy, but in the best possible version of crazy! Also the new year found me to have accomplished most of my 2016 year resolutions (and the most difficult and big ones) which makes me even more happy and thankful.

Next week I will share with you more posts and outfits from our New Year’s Eve in Vienna. So what about you? How did you spend the New Year’s Eve and how has the new year started for you? I actually missed you all these days and I can’t wait to read your news in the comments below!

Which New Year’s resolutions you seem to be keeping and which ones you have already gloriously broken? 😉

Happy Friday and happy 2017!

Much love,

Stella

Oh, wow! Stella. That is what I call a coat. It’s beautiful.
There are two places I want to visit before I get tooo old. One being Vienna; the other, the Greek island of Scyros. Place some English flowers, picked from under an English sky, at the grave of Rupert Brooke. Probably it’s not allowed.
No resolutions, but I would love a year of being well.
My comments on the books I love, and another on ankle socks are posted on your 2016 review.

Happy New Year my dearest Jo! I am sure you will love Vienna, this city is so full of history and remarkable sights like the numerous palaces! Spyros is a really beautiful island too. I am not sure though if it is allowed or not to visit the grave of Rupert Brooke. I just got back on track and will catch up with your other comments as well! I am sure you have some great books to suggest! 🙂 Wish you all the best for 2017 and sending love your way! xoxo

So sorry you had to visit the hospital because of the allergic reaction you had. It’s so important to have health insurance, especially when traveling! I was in a similar situation when I went to Brazil and the US. You look lovely and that coat looks so warm and comfy! Have a great weekend!

Happy 2017 my dear Yvonne! Actually I have a worldwide covering health insurance, which is partnering with numerous private clinics in Vienna. However we went at the hospital right next to our hotel as my throat was getting swollen and there was not much time. I got the best treatment one can expect, so there was no reason to go to a private clinic at that point. The health care system of Vienna (and the rest of Austria I suppose) is beyond excellent! 🙂 Have a great weekend as well and thank you for your thoughtful comment!

    thanks for your answer

How could I have missed not commenting on your hospital visit. Makes me feel awful. But I hope you are much recovered now, Stella.
Hospitals here seem to be in crisis, and best avoided.
Pictures on last night’s news showing Greece covered in snow, and freezing temperatures.
And more next week. Time to get out all things wooly and ready to wear.

Ah Jo don’t worry at all my dear. It was bad at the moment but I am totally ok now and I shared it only to express how amazed I was by the health care system, among so many things, in Vienna. You live in Greece too? Yes hospitals here are in tragic conditions, as everything in Greece right now, except for the beauty of nature. We are in Thessaloniki right now. The heating gas installations everywhere in town where so cheap that after one day of -4 temperatures, the pipes and systems are frozen or even broken, and everyone is freezing cold. Our fireplace could not be enough to heat up our entire house, so today we came to stay at my in-laws who luckily have still heating. Imagine what would have happened with -20 for example!! What infuriates me is that despite the warnings for extreme weather conditions for over a week now, no one came out to warn people and tell them what to do in order to keep having heating these cold days. Hope you are warm my dear Jo. How is your weekend? Where do you live by the way? Kisses!

My dear, Stella. I have a doctor friend whom reminds me occasionally that we may think we are tough, but, in fact, the human body is quite fragile. We live on a knife edge. But let’s not go there today.
I can’t imagine how you got the idea that I live in Greece. Probably my mentioning dear Rupert.
I live on the, usually, sunny South Coast of England. West of Brighton and South of London (where I was born and grew up). I just know that I’m going to love, ‘How to be a Parisian’. The Library here is looking for the Carotenuto book.
keep warm in your lovely coat.
    Kisses.

South Coast of England is so beautiful! We have never visited but it is definitely on our list. The wild beauty white chalk cliffs among so many places is mesmerising! I am so glad you checked my book recommendations and hope you got your hands the stones on the book of Carotenuto. And any of his books, I have read almost all of them, but in the one I suggested to you, there are so many beautiful stories of greek mythology and respective psychological analysis for each one of them. My favourite myth is the one of Eros & Soul. I look forward to your reviews. As for “How to be Parisian” it’s a total different kind of book but really fun, smart and definitely a page turner! 😉 Hope you enjoy both! Sending love your way! xo

Friends and I walk along those cliff tops often. Also, we walk in the hills of the beautiful South Downs. Stunning views. But not today. Today I am killing time, so to speak.
Have just been looking through your back pages and found a lovely photo of you wearing pink sued boots and a swishy skirt. I can’t make out what you are sitting upon, but the look is adorable.
One of the many things I love about your Blog, are all the lovely comments you receive. It makes me feel that I’m in the company of rather nice people.

Oh yes you are Jo and I am really happy and thankful for you being part of it, as well for all this love and appreciation I receive though these wonderful comments and thank you so much for reading them as well! It really melts my heart and puts a big smile on my face every time I read them. My purpose is to inspire you and all my readers/friends and to help you out with anything I could, it can be an idea, a life hack, a tip, a fashion look. This is why I will be sharing more personal posts and experiences as well as self-improvement posts from now on, as soon as I step foot to our new city and home. The look with the pink boots is one of my favourites lately, thank you for noticing! I am sitting on a backless bench the other way round. 😉 Kisses xoxo

Oh darling, I can’t wait to see more pictures of you in Vienna, a city I know so well! It is amazingly beautiful. We thought about spending New Years there this year, but stayed in London. I always go crazy over the Lipizzaner horses at the Spanish Riding School there. The food is also just amazing in Vienna, isn’t it? I have a cousin who is a doctor at the hospital in Vienna, so she’ll be pleased to hear of your very positive experience there. I’ll be sure to tell her!

I can’t wait to see where you’re relocating to, and what you get up to for 2017. Well done on accomplishing so much in 2016!!

You look amazing in these photos; I always say no one wears monochrome as well as you do! This creamy white is just magnificent on you. Stay warm in Greece; I’m sorry to hear about how things are going there. Lots of love and wishes for a soaring 2017 xxx

Hello my dear Martina! Thank you so much for your lovely comment and words to me, I am so glad you like my look! The coat was so perfectly warm for that city, I am so glad I got it with me! Hope you are having a great week so far! Hugs! xo

  15. 10/01/2017 / 20:55

I’m so sorry you got that allergic reaction!! That absolutely stinks, but at least you’re in good humor about it and still got to enjoy Vienna!

I think your choice of long layers is perfect for the subzero temps. You managed to pull off looking absolutely fabulous and stay warm- no small feat!

I spent NYE actually in the apartment. This is the first time we have an apartment that has a view of the ball dropping in Times Square so we figured the best way to do this thing is to stay at home and wait for the ball to drop with some champagne! I didn’t set any resolutions, just made myself a small promise to take it easy and stay aware. 🙂

Hi Nataliya! Honestly, I would never mention it without being in good humour about it haha! The truth is I could not skip mentioning the great health care system of Austria, at least from my experience! And it could have been much worse so I am really thankful it happened the way it did! 😀 An apartment with such view sounds divine! I would definitely spend not only the NYE but perhaps the rest of holidays too enjoying this view! So glad that you had such a beautiful start to 2017 my dear! Wish you all the best for the new year! You are such an inspiration to me! <3

  16. 11/01/2017 / 04:53

That coat with the fur trim is seriously to die for! You look like you’re ready to rock New York or Paris Fashion week while staying warm all the the same time! You also make me really want to cut my hair because yours look so sleek and chic! Vienna would be such a magical place to ring in the New Year. I celebrated New Years and LA this year and it was so fun! I can’t wait to see what this year has to offer, 2017 here we come!

To tell you the truth, there are some days that I miss having long hair, but shorter are so much easier to live with haha! Have a great day hon! <3

I had no idea you allergy reaction had gotten so bad my darling Stella! I’m so sorry darling but I can imagine you must have looked funny.
That coat is truly beautiful, I was sure when I saw it on Instagram is made in Greece. After all the most beautiful fur coats are made in Greece. You won’t believe it but Greek fur coats are very popular in Russia, Maksim’s mom owns one.

    Cheers darling,

That’s amazing about greek coats in Russia, here the most popular fur stores are Russians, both in Thessaloniki and Chalkidiki! Happy almost Friday my dear Tatjana! xoxo
