The more the holidays are approaching, the more we dream of beaded gowns, party dresses, “ugly” sweaters, glitters and sequins. However, these pieces are not the most versatile, and we tend to spend a lot on them at this time of the year. Which is perfectly fine when you have an unlimited budget, but as most of us don’t, here’s my idea.
This year, instead of splurging on holiday dressing, you can update your wardrobe by investing on winter essentials that are perfect for holidays, yet they will go a long way! These are major wardrobe staples that every woman must own, and the best part is that they are also perfect for your busy holiday party schedule!
Remember that the key to a successful holiday capsule wardrobe, that will still be wearable after the holidays, is to have foundational items that are:

Your Perfect Holiday Capsule Wardrobe With 10 Fashion Essentials
#1 The perfect black blazer
A well-structured, tailored blazer is classic, feminine and looks great on all body types. This is my number one wardrobe essential in general and also perfect for a holiday capsule wardrobe! You can pair it with jeans, skirts, tailored pants, little dresses and anything in between. What’s more, you can wear it with your holiday evening gown! Just make sure to pick a really good fitting one! For me, the perfect black blazer is the iconic Yves Saint Laurent’s Le Smoking. Here are some similar cuts below on more affordable versions.
#2 Turtleneck sweater
As I mentioned in a recent outfit post, a turtleneck sweater is the ultimate winter layering piece. This baby will not only keep you warm but it’s perfect to wear on its own or under your favorite dresses! Plus, it ensures that your neck is nice and snug all winter long!
#3 A red/burgundy velvet dress
Instead of a long, evening embroidered gown, you can choose a red velvet dress this year. Look how my blogger friend Rina has perfectly styled the same red velvet dress, for a holiday appearance and a day-look! Isn’t it perfection?
#4 Leather jacket
For me, leather jackets are on top of the must-have wardrobe essentials list. Every girl needs to add a little bit of edgy to her wardrobe. A leather moto jacket will give you the “cool girl” vibe you need that still remains classic and timeless. It can serve perfectly, from a basic model-off-duty staple to an unexpectedly cool and sophisticated topper for an elegant evening attire!
#5 Cashmere crewneck sweater
Instead of buying an “ugly sweater” –by the way I don’t know why we call them ugly, I just love them- you can wear the same like last year, and invest on a cashmere crewneck sweater which will go a long way. This super chic layering piece can be as easy to dress up as it is to dress down!
#6 Black single-sole pumps
If you must own one pair of shoes, this is it! You can choose a patent leather one for more holiday glam. Try to avoid the very high stiletto heel, especially if you choose patent leather, so that they can be worn at work and match with as many daily looks as possible, after the holiday is over.
#7 Evening clutch
This is the best time to invest on an evening clutch. For a night out, you can wear a pair of leather pants and a cashmere sweater, and style it up with an embroidered clutch in metallic tones, as it looks like a big piece of jewelry. My favorites are from Alexander McQueen, Bottega Veneta and Monique Lhuillier, but there are similar affordable versions too!
#8 Black ankle boots
A good pair of black, ankle boots, is a perennial wardrobe staple. This shoe never seems to get old! You can wear them with jeans, dress and tights during day, or finish off any going out look! Suede boots are very hot right now, and they add texture to your outfit, making it look more expensive.
#9 Midi Skirt
A tailored midi skirt has the power to make any girl feel extra stylish and on point! Midi skirts can dress up any outfit, making it perfect for all the big events in your calendar.
#10 Tailored Leather Trousers
Most probably you already have a pair of rocker-style leather (or vegan leather) leggings. Try updating your leather game with a pair of tailored trousers for an alternative to pair with a dressy top for a night out during holidays, or even a crisp white button-down and blazer for the office. You’ re welcome. 🙂
